Question tweet template

Questions get replies when they're specific and easy to answer. This template gives your own answer first, so people have something to respond to.

The template

  1. [A specific question your audience can answer from experience]? Mine: [your own answer, in one or two lines]. [Optional: an easy way to reply, e.g. "One word is fine."]

When to use it

  • You want replies and conversation, not just likes.
  • You want to learn what your audience thinks or struggles with.
  • You need ideas for future content, straight from your followers.

Why it works

A specific question

"What's your favorite tool?" is vague. "What's the one tool you'd keep if you could only keep one?" is easy to answer.

Your answer first

Going first shows what kind of answer you're looking for and makes replying feel less like homework.

A low bar

"One word is fine" tells people a short reply counts. More people reply when the bar is low.

Examples

Freelance designer
  1. Y

    Your name@you

What's one thing you wish clients knew before hiring a designer? Mine: "Can you make it pop?" isn't feedback. Tell me what feels wrong and I'll figure out why. One line is fine.

SaaS founder
  1. Y

    Your name@you

What's the one tool you'd keep if you had to cancel every other subscription tomorrow? Mine: my calendar. Everything else I could rebuild with a spreadsheet. One word is fine.

Running coach
  1. Y

    Your name@you

What's the best running advice you ignored for way too long? Mine: slow down on easy days. I ran every run at the same pace for years and wondered why I never got faster.

Tips

  • Ask questions people can answer from experience, not ones that need research.
  • Reply to the answers. A question tweet that the author ignores dies quickly.
  • Save the best answers. They're material for a future listicle thread.
  • Engagement posts like this fit the Engagement category in Extudio's content calendar.
